Configured to orderVertical Form Fill Seal Packaging Machines
DOKTEK FoodTech supplies vertical packaging solutions for food products. A vertical form fill seal (VFFS) machine forms a bag from roll film, fills it from the weigher or doser above and seals it — the standard way to bag frozen vegetables, nuts, dried fruit, snacks, granules and powders.
Configuration is selected according to product, packaging format and required capacity. Machine speed, dimensions and price are stated in the quotation once the product and the pack have been reviewed.

How a Vertical Form Fill Seal Machine Works
- 01
Film unwind
- 02
Forming collar
- 03
Longitudinal seal
- 04
Dosing into tube
- 05
Cross seal + cut
- 06
Bag discharge
Film is pulled over the forming collar into a tube, sealed along its length, closed at the bottom by the cross jaws, filled through the tube and sealed at the top while the next bag's bottom seal is made.
Machine Configuration
A VFFS system is a set of modules chosen for the product and the bag.
- 01
Dosing unit
Multihead weigher for irregular pieces, linear weigher for uniform granules, cup filler for stable bulk density, auger for powders, pump filler for liquids.
- 02
Forming set
Forming collar and tube sized to the bag width. A second forming set is the usual way to run a second bag width.
- 03
Film transport
Servo-driven pull belts with print registration, so printed film is cut on the eye mark.
- 04
Longitudinal sealing
Fin or lap seal along the bag, with sealing temperature and pressure set per film.
- 05
Cross-sealing jaws
Intermittent or continuous-motion jaws that seal the top of one bag and the bottom of the next, with a knife between.
- 06
Controls
PLC and touch-screen HMI with recipes for bag length, temperatures, dosing and options.
Suitable Products
Where a vertical bagger fits, and where another machine is the better choice.
Typical VFFS products
- Frozen vegetables and fruit, IQF products
- Nuts, dried fruit and seeds
- Snacks, chips and confectionery
- Rice, pulses, sugar and other granules
- Flour, spices and other powders (with an auger filler)
- Fresh-cut vegetables and salads in pillow bags
Usually better on another machine
- Products that must lie flat or in order — flow pack
- Products sold in a rigid tray with a lid — tray sealing
- Retail stand-up pouches bought ready-made — premade pouch machine
- Products that must not drop through a forming tube
Bag Styles and Packaging Materials
The same machine principle produces different bags. A pillow bag is the simplest and fastest; a gusseted bag stands better and holds more volume; block-bottom and quad-seal bags stand upright on the shelf and need the corresponding forming and sealing equipment.
Film is chosen with the film supplier for the product's barrier needs and the seal the machine must make: laminated films such as PET/PE or OPP/CPP, metallised films for light and oxygen barrier, and mono-material films where recyclability matters. Sealing temperatures, jaw pressure and dwell time are set per film.
Capacity Considerations
Bags per minute depend on the bag length, the fill volume, how fast the product falls through the tube, the sealing time the film needs and whether the jaws move intermittently or continuously. Dosing accuracy and speed depend on the weigher or filler and on the product.
DOKTEK therefore states capacity for the agreed product, bag and film in the quotation. The article on calculating packaging machine capacity explains how to work out what a line actually needs.
Controls, Changeover and Cleaning
Bag length, temperatures and dosing targets are stored as recipes on the HMI. A change of bag width means a change of forming set; a change of bag length or target weight is a recipe change.
Food-contact parts are stainless steel or food-grade plastics. The frame is designed for access to the forming set, jaws and dosing outlet, and the cleaning concept — dry clean or wash-down — is defined per product.
Safety
Moving jaws and film transport sit behind interlocked guards with emergency stops. CE documentation can be prepared according to the machine scope and the destination market.
Upstream and Downstream Integration
Upstream, a VFFS machine is usually fed by a multihead or linear weigher on a platform above it, which is fed by an incline or bucket conveyor from the processing line. Downstream, bags go to a checkweigher, a metal detector and case packing. DOKTEK specifies these hand-overs with the bagger rather than leaving them to the site.
Optional Equipment
Options- Nitrogen or gas flushing
- Thermal-transfer date and batch coder
- Labeller
- Euro-slot or round hole punch
- Tear notch
- Bag deflator
- Automatic film splicing
- Dust extraction for powders
- Checkweigher and metal detector
Options are confirmed per project for the product and the film.
Specification basis
DOKTEK FoodTech supplies vertical form fill seal packaging machines as configured systems: the machine, the dosing or weighing equipment, the format parts and the controls are selected for the customer's product, pack and capacity rather than sold as one fixed model.
For that reason this page publishes no speed, pack-size range, film width, machine dimension, reference installation or price. Each is stated in the quotation for the agreed configuration and can be confirmed with the customer's own product and packaging material before shipment.
What Is Confirmed Before Quotation
Bags per minute are confirmed for the agreed product, bag size, film and dosing method. No figure is quoted before those are known.
- Product and flow behaviour
- Target weight and tolerance
- Bag style and dimensions
- Film structure and print
- Required bags per minute
- Upstream feeding and downstream handling

Send Your Product and Pack
A packaging quotation starts with the product and the pack you want to sell. The more of the following you can send, the more specific the reply.
- 01Product and how it behaves (free-flowing, sticky, fragile, frozen, powder)
- 02Target pack weight or count per pack
- 03Pack format — photo or sample of the bag, pouch, tray or case
- 04Packaging material, if already chosen
- 05Required packs per minute or per shift
- 06What comes before and after the packaging machine

Frequently asked questions
Questions before a machine evaluation.
01What is a VFFS packaging machine?
A vertical form fill seal machine forms a bag from a roll of flat film around a forming tube, seals it lengthwise, closes the bottom, fills product through the tube from the doser above and seals the top — forming, filling and sealing in one vertical machine.
02Is a vertical packaging machine the same as a bagging machine?
In food packaging, 'bagging machine', 'vertical bagger', 'VFFS machine' and 'vertical form fill seal machine' usually mean the same machine. Bagging machines for bulk sacks or premade open-mouth bags are different machines.
03Which weigher should be used with a vertical packaging machine?
A multihead weigher for irregular pieces such as frozen vegetables, nuts or snacks; a linear weigher for uniform, free-flowing granules; a volumetric cup filler for products with a stable bulk density; an auger filler for powders; a pump filler for liquids.
04Can one machine make different bag sizes?
Bag length is a recipe setting. Bag width is set by the forming collar and tube, so a different width needs a second forming set and a changeover.
05Can the bags be gas flushed?
Nitrogen or gas flushing can be included where the product needs a modified atmosphere, for example for nuts or snacks sensitive to oxidation.
06How fast is a vertical packaging machine?
Speed depends on the bag size, the product, the film and the dosing method, so it is stated in the quotation for the agreed configuration rather than as a general figure.
