Automating Industrial Cucumber Cutting and Trimming
Cucumbers vary in length, diameter and curvature, and the ends that need trimming sit in a different place on every unit. A line built around one assumed cucumber cuts some of the real ones wrong.
Fixed Blades Assume a Uniform Cucumber
A fixed-position cutting station is set up for a nominal product: one length, one end position. Units longer or shorter than the nominal lose usable product on one side or keep material that should have been trimmed on the other. The line then depends on upstream grading or manual pre-alignment to stay inside that assumption.
Vision Reverses the Order of Operations
A vision-guided system measures first and cuts second. The camera establishes each unit's actual geometry — where it starts, where it ends, how it curves — and the cutting positions are calculated from that measurement instead of from a mechanical preset. Product variation stops being a setup problem and becomes an input.
